In honor of Mockingjay Part 2 coming to dvd & blu-ray on March 22, 2016 a celebration was held in Hollywood, CA. The Hunger Games Fan Event with Cast Q&A took place at the Egyptian Theatre on March 20th. Tickets were given out to fans for free through a website called gofobo. I found out about the event from twitter and made sure to share the opportunity to get tickets with my followers. If you want to find out about events like this happening in various cities be sure to connect with me on twitter. I love helping fans get to have incredible experiences and do my best to share the information I find.
The event started at 10am with us walking into the courtyard of the theatre where drummers were lined up to recreate a scene from Mockingjay Part 2. We checked in to get our schedule and wristband for the day. Next we enjoyed some delicious pastries from Peeta’s bakery. My friend and I decided to take our food into the theatre so that we could save our seats before enjoying some of the other activities. All four movies were scheduled to be shown throughout the day with various activities happening in-between. The first movie was showing at 11am so we had time to go back into the courtyard and get in line for trivia. We were asked a trivia question on camera and were then given various prizes. I walked away with a lovely rose with a note from President Snow and a Mockingjay pin.
You can buy the mockingjay pin here.
After the first movie finished playing there was a green screen set up for fans to take photos. You had the choice between four different backgrounds and were given a copy of the picture. My friend and I chose this picture of Katniss & Gale from Mockingjay Part One. Next I stopped by Effie’s makeup corner where fans were given capitol inspired makeovers. As Catching Fire was coming to an end the red carpet area was being prepped for the arrivals of the cast members. In attendance were Willow Shields (Primrose Everdeen), Bruno Gunn (Brutus), Meta Golding (Enobaria), Stef Dawson (Annie), and Eugenie Bondurant (Tigris). While on the red carpet they posed for pictures and did interviews with the various media outlets who were there. And the best part was that they had time to interact with the fans.

Some of the fans had flown in from the east coast while others had driven for more than 5 hours to attend. It was so nice to see them freak out over getting to meet some of their favorites from the movies. During this time we were provided with a lunch of a “Grilled Cheese Haymitch” or an “Evergreen veggie burger”. This event gave me quite a few ideas should I ever host a Hunger Games themed party in the future. When the red carpet was over everyone went back inside the theatre for the q&a. I attended the Mockingjay Part 2 premiere which was great because I got to see a lot of the cast members. This event was great too though because this time I got to hear about their experiences working on the movie.
The q&a lasted for more than thirty minutes and was moderated by two girls from Clever TV. One was dressed up like Effie Trinket and the other was a girl from the Capitol. Each one of the cast members shared stories about what being part of the movies meant to them and stories about being on set. Willow talked about how she grew up on the sets of these movies and learned so much from working with Jennifer Lawrence. They were asked who they would partner up with in the Hunger Games and Bruno said he would pick Beetee so they could have brains & brawn. When asked what other character they would have wanted to play Meta said Katniss. Who wouldn’t want to be Katniss? I filmed the major it of the q&a so that I could share it with you and once it finishes loading to youtube I will post the link here.
After the q&a ended we watch Mockingjay Part 1 which was followed by a costume competition. Finally, we got to the last movie Mockingjay Part 2. My friend had not seen it yet so I was excited to see his reaction to how the series ended. By the time the last movie was over it was after 11pm and we were too tired to stay to see bonus footage. While it was a very long day the event was a lot of fun and a great way for the fans to say goodbye. Don’t forget that social media is the best way to find out about events like this.
Really cool to hear about how they themed the event–definitely a lot of thought and work went into planning something like that!
That sounds so fun! I loved that trilogy!
OMG! I wish I could’ve been there! I love the hunger games movies! I love how creative they got with each activity like peeta’s bakery and the effie makeover corner. It just shows how much in detail they made everything so that it really did seem like you were in the hunger games world.
I haven’t seen the films, but this sounds like an excellent fan event. I haven’t heard of events like this in the UK… at least not for free or the general public.
I really wished that I enjoyed Part 2 as much as Part 1. But I always found the promotional campaign around those movies to be so fun and lively. I’m a bit jealous not to have been there. Thank you for sharing!
What an awesome event! You are so lucky to have scored tickets for this unique celebration. I must admit to being a bit jealous! I absolutely love the Hunger Games movies. Thanks so much for giving us a peek of your ultra-fabulous day!
What an awesome experience! I loved the books and movies! :)
This is SO cool! I’m beyond jealous that you got to go to this! <3
