How To Get Tickets To The Ellen DeGeneres Show

In 2012, some of my co-workers were talking about going to a taping of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Going to a taping of her show sounded like a lot of fun to me. Have you ever wondered how you can get free tickets to the Ellen DeGeneres show? I went to Ellen’s website and clicked on a taping date to request tickets. I checked back in late summer/early fall for tickets. I eventually submitted for tickets to a show in October and waited to see what happened.

tickets to the ellen degeneres showA few weeks before the taping date I got a call from someone who works for the show. They told me that I would receive two standby tickets to the Ellen DeGeneres Show and there would be no guarantee that I would get in. You will get two guaranteed tickets if you don’t make it inside. The only bummer is that you have to come back to use the guaranteed tickets. There was no guarantee I would get in. However, going was one of the best decisions that I have ever made. Update – they no longer call but will email you about tickets.

Caitlin and I got down to Warner Bros. Studio very early to try and make sure that we would have the best chance of getting into the show. When you get your confirmation in the mail from the Ellen show it will have parking instructions. Once you park you will check in at the bottom of the garage and get a number. You are welcome to leave to get food.  Make sure to bring a photo id for check-in. I would encourage you to bring a book or playing cards, anything you want to keep you busy.

If you arrive early enough to have time for a sit down lunch I highly recommend the Smokehouse Restaurant. It was a favorite of Walt Disney and George Clooney. Tv shows and movies like La La Land have even filmed there.

How I Got Tickets to Ellen’s 12 Days of Giveaways

When we walked across the street to the studio we learned that we would not be in the audience. If there is not enough room for the standby ticket holders you have to watch the show from the riff-raff room which is also the Ellen shop. While I was in the riff-raff room we were all given a number. The riffraff room also happens to be the Ellen shop where you can find items like Ellen underwear. Three numbers were pulled from a bowl. The winners were given two tickets to come back for Ellen’s 12 Days of Giveaways .

I was extremely shocked when my number was pulled and I still can’t believe that I got that lucky! Colin Farrell was one of the guests on the show that day. During a commercial break he and Ellen came out to wave and say hi to us which was so cool. Cody Simpson was the musical talent on the show that day so we all left with a free copy of his cd.

In November I got another call from The Ellen DeGeneres Show letting me know which date our tickets would be for so that we could plan our work schedules around it. The day finally came for us to go back to Warner Bros. Studio and we were full of excitement and anticipation of what would happen on the show.

We were so excited when Ellen announced that the guests would be Drew Barrymore and Cory Monteith.  Finally towards the end of the show came the moment that we were all waiting for. My dad tapped the show and saw me for a quick moment. Look in-between the lady in the white and the man touching his glasses. I am above his left shoulder.

My 12 Days of Giveaways Goodies

Caitlin and I were incredibly blessed and grateful to receive a ticketmaster gift card, an Alternative Appearl gift card, tickets to a Fleetwood Mac concert at the Hollywood Bowl, a closet makeover from the Container Store and a couch from Laz Boy. If you go to a 12 Days show make sure to bring a pen and something to write on for the tax forms.

Once we had filled out the tax forms we were led to the hallway where we were given the gift cards. We were also handed the tickets for the Fleetwood Mac concert, a cute small hanger which held the information for redeeming the closet makeover from the Container Store and a packet of information on how to order the couch from Laz Boy.

There is no guarantee of getting tickets to Ellen’s 12 Days of Giveaways but it can certainly happen to you.  She likes to give some of her audiences tickets to come back for a 12 Days show. She often holds contests on Facebook to win tickets to the show and of course you might wind up winning tickets from the riffraff room like I did. I wish you the best of luck and hope that you will get the chance to have the amazing experience that I did!

Advice For Ticket Holders From Out of Town

If you do not live close to Burbank you will want to get a hotel in the area. I would encourage you to take the Warner Bros. Studio VIP Tour prior to the taping so that you can get the most out of your show.  Universal Studios Hollywood is also close by so that is another option of something fun for you to do while you are in the area. Even if you do not have enough time to go inside the park you could visit their city walk for some dinner and entertainment! Oh and if you are not from California I highly recommend that you make time in your visit for In-N-Out. Would you like to attend a taping? You can request tickets here:

Awesome!! I am sure you had a blast! Ellen is my all time favorite! 8 watch her every day. I just recently started trying to get audience tickets to see her show. I saw slots were open 3 days in beginning of January 2017. So I requested the 3 tickets. How long did you wait for a response for confirmed tickets?? I’m so anxious to find out. I did this yesterday and now today I see all is filled up so I A M hoping I am in. Thank you so much hope to hear back! My dream to see her show in person!

Hi Jill, I will keep my fingers crossed that you get the tickets! They aren’t very good at giving you very much notice. I think about 2 weeks notice is pretty typical. Hopefully you will hear something before Christmas. I really hope your dream can come true. -Elle

    Hi Elle!

I have a question about the Ellen show. When is Ellen going on her summer vacations this year?
Also, Do you know any secret you can suggest to get tickets to show? I guess things have changed since this post.

  • Elle Post author

    Hi Anita,
Things have not changed when it comes to getting tickets other than the fact that they email you now compared to calling you when you are selected for tickets. Typically Ellen stops filming at the end of May and does not come back until late August/early September. Hope that helps. -Elle

  • Anita

Hi Elle. Do you think there is a chance for me to get tickets for May 23rd? I am not sure if there would be tickets available as the ones for the previous week came out as ‘sold out’ in the webpage. Do you know anything about it or is there a way to find out?

  • Elle Post author

    Hi Anita,
Tickets are available 30 days in advance and typically sell out within minutes of being posted. You’ll have to check the website constantly between 8am-830am PST 30 days before May 25. There is not a taping on May 23rd to my knowledge. -Elle

  • Cora

Awesome! I booked 2 tickets and recently got a call back. They told me I would get standby tickets too. Hope I have as much fun as you did– even if I get pulled into the Riff-Raff room. :)

  • Elle Post author

Hi Cora, I’ll keep my fingers crossed that if you have to go to the Riff-Raff room that you get tickets to the 12 Days of Giveaways!! If you get there earlier enough I also recommend walking down to eat at the Smoke House. Hope you have a great time! -Elle

  • Amani Scott

Awesome Cora. When did you apply for tickets? I’m hoping to go to the show during the season premiere. Wonder if those are already booked.

I watch Ellen every day, love her and her programs, she is so funny and sooooo serious. She is my hero. If you could get her motto out to the world it would be a much better place. “Be kind to on another.”

  • Elle Post author

Yes I agree “be kind to one another” is really a message that the world needs to hear. -Elle
