When I was little I loved knowing that we had a plate of cookies waiting for Santa Claus when he would stop by my home. For as long as I can remember we used this red plate that my Mom had personalized. Sure, you can buy special cookie plates that are Santa themed. Or you can make a DIY one!
You can find an inexpensive plate at Walmart or the Dollar Store. This is your plate to personalize as you wish so pick whatever color plate you would like and puffy paint. My Mom used gold puffy paint to put a bow at the top of the plate. She also used green and red to make little berries.
What should you write on your plate? This is your chance to be creative and have some fun. You can write a short poem about the cookies. Keep Calm and Eat Cookies is fun. Ask your children because they say the darndest things.
If you would like you can copy what my Mom wrote:
Dear Santa,
Thank you for all the presents…
Here are some cookies for you
and some carrots for your reindeer
p.s. we’ve been good
What my Mom wrote filled up the plate but it would be so cute to add your children’s names at the end.
In addition to including some carrots for the reindeer on the cookie plate, my sister and I love putting reindeer food in our yard. We sprinkle oatmeal and glitter in our front yard. The oatmeal was for them to eat and the glitter was to help them spot it.
In need of a cookie recipe for Christmas Eve? I highly recommend the M&M thumbprint cookies. You can find that recipe here.
