The Point Fermin Lighthouse is located in San Pedro, California. The lighthouse was built in 1874, it is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday. There is no admission fee, but donations are requested for each visitor. Guided tours are available at 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm. Free street parking can be found nearby.
Why I am blogging about this? Well, the Point Fermin Lighthouse has been used in movies and television shows. I love sharing filming locations that you can check out in person. The wedding in 500 Days of Summer was filmed here. You might recognize this place from Chinatown staring Jack Nicholson. A scene from The Big Lebowski was filmed below the cliff that the lighthouse overlooks. However, for safety reasons the public is not allowed down there.
The lighthouse did not look like it was open when I visited so I stayed on the outside taking pictures. I did some research on the building and I was able to see some pictures of the inside. It looks like it would be very interesting to check out if you have the chance. Visiting the lighthouse can easily be done in an hour.
Before walking to the lighthouse I had been to the Korean Bell of Friendship which is less than two miles from here. When I left the lighthouse I headed to another filming location, the Cabrillo Beach Bathhouse. The beach house serves as Anchor Beach high school on the television show The Fosters.
There are a lot of fun places to check out in San Pedro. The best way to enjoy a day in this city is to visit several different places while you’re there. Most of the locations, like the lighthouse, aren’t worth the drive if you just go to do one thing. I’ve already mentioned a few of the places worth checking out in the area. You can also visit the Iowa battleship. Interested in checking out the Queen Mary in Long Beach? That is worth the drive too while you’re in the area.
Have you been to San Pedro? If so, what do you recommend to do for fun?
