There is a new attraction at The Disneyland Resort. Well, it isn’t a brand new attraction. The Hollywood Tower of Terror has been replaced with a Guardians of the Galaxy Ride at Disney California Adventure Park. Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout opened it’s doors on May 27th. Disney fans have been waiting in long lines to see what changes have been made. When my family was in town we made sure to get a fastpass so that we wouldn’t have to wait in a long line to experience this attraction.
When I arrived at the park about an hour after it opened the wait time for Guardians of the Galaxy was 105 minutes. I got in line to get a fastpass which I could use from 7:20pm to 8:20pm. That’s right even though I was at the park at 9am I wasn’t going to be able to use the fastpass until the evening. By 10am all of the fastpasses for this attraction were gone. So, if you’d like to check it out without waiting in a crazy long line I highly recommend getting to the park early in the morning so that you can get a fastpass. Don’t worry, even if you can’t use this fastpass until the evening it will only be a two-hour wait until you can get a fastpass for a different attraction.
As some of you may know the Hollywood Tower of Terror was one of my favorite attractions. Not only did I love the free fall drops but the theming of the attraction was fabulous. Like many other Disney fans, I was sad when I found out that tower would be replaced by Guardians of the Galaxy. However, I decided to keep an open mind about the new theming.
Once I saw the makeover that the exterior of the building received I had high hopes for what the inside of the attraction would look like. Maybe if I was a bigger fan of GOTG I would have been more impressed but once I stepped inside the lobby that used to wow me I immediately felt underwhelmed. The decor in the lobby no longer impresses me. It feels empty without all of the Tower of Terror decor.
I had heard rumors that there is now six different drop sequences which I thought sounded cool. To be honest, the new drop sequences are one of the main reasons that I no longer love this attraction. On the Tower of Terror your elevator car would move from floor to floor explaining the story of the attraction to you before you began the free falls. The transitions on tower were smooth and I never felt like I was going to get sick. Now when the elevator transitions from floor to floor to explain the story the elevator continues to move while you are watching video footage of the characters. It’s the movement while watching the videos that made me feel like I was going to be sick. In the drop sequence that I experienced the drops were not nearly as long as they were on Tower of Terror though in total there were more drops.
If you’re going to the Disneyland Resort soon I recommend checking out this attraction to see what you think of it.
