For our second day at Aulani my friend and I woke up before the sun so that we could attend sunrise yoga only to find out when we got down to the beach that we booked it for the wrong day.  Instead of going back to sleep we decided to take advantage of the empty pools to take some pictures.  It was such a peaceful time and so relaxing walking around the pool area.  We eventually made our way over to a grassy area past the Marriot where we could see the beach at Aulani but also have different views of the beautiful island.  We had a full day of activities ahead of us, we booked breakfast with the characters, booked a massage at the spa, booked a paddle board fitness class and had tickets to go to a luau down the street at Paradise Cove.

How peaceful does the infinity pool look without anyone in it?

Breakfast with the characters took place at Makahiki which was the same place that we had dined at the night before.  I am not a big breakfast person but their selection of food was incredible.  I especially loved the Mickey waffles.  The only downside was that the characters avoided our table since we didn’t have any children with us.  I thought that this was very odd because there were other locations that we could have had breakfast at so when you book breakfast at Makahiki you are doing it for the characters.  Before you get sat at your table you do get a picture with Mickey Mouse and then Minnie Mouse and Goofy stop by your table for pictures.  We had to ask our waitress to have Minnie and Goofy stop by our table for a picture which was a bit annoying but the food was good so it could have been worse.

After breakfast I squeezed in some shopping where I picked up some delicious guava and macadamia nut shortbread cookies which were shaped like Mickey Mouse.  I also picked up two adorable ornaments and an Aulani Dooney & Burke purse which is a fun and unique souvenir.  The shops are not very big but they are full of great and unique souvenirs.  Once I had finished shopping it was time for us to go to our paddle board fitness class.  I assumed that since it was a paddle board class that it would take place in the ocean so I wore my bathing suit with a dress over it.  Boy did I feel like a fool when I found out that it is an indoor class that takes place inside the teen spa.  It was a great workout and I really wish that there was a place in Orange County where I could take this class weekly.  The paddle has weights on it but when you aren’t using the paddle you are doing all different kind of exercises on and around the board.  I would recommend the class if you are looking to include some exercise in your vacation.  The cost for the class is around $17 if I remember correctly.

After our workout we stopped by the open house for the vacation club rooms.  The rooms are so incredible that I was tempted to join the Disney Vacation Club until I remembered that for one person it is not a good deal.  One of the best parts of visiting the DVC room was that the view from the balcony allowed me to take a great picture of the pool areas. There is a room on the bottom floor of the resort that has movies and games that you can rent for free by providing your room number.  So that can be a nice way to take a breather and relax in your room.

You can see Pu’u Kilo which is the brown mountain which is homes to the slides. Beyond that is the Waikolohe Pool and the ocean. And you can see Rainbow Reef where you can swim with the fish.

Before we went to check in at Laniwei Spa we decided to spend more time at the beach and in the pools.  I was so excited to get my first massage and it was a great experience that made me feel so pampered.  We had been instructed to arrive about an hour before our massage so that we could enjoy all of the amenities.  We were given robes and a locker and then taken on a short tour of the area.  One lady helped us pick scents to make a scrub that we could take home with us and the scents were amazing.  The hydrotherapy garden was so relaxing and peaceful.  You have your choice between several different types of bathes and hot tubs or you can stand under waterfall type shower heads. Inside they have showers and hair dryers and lotions, and pretty much anything you could want.  About fifteen minutes before your massage you will be led into a room with comfy lounge chairs to relax with fruit and water before you begin your massage.  I selected the Lomilomi which is a traditional Hawaiian massage and will leaving you feeling wonderful.

Following our spa treatments it was time to get ready for the luau.  Luckily for us Paradise Cove is around a five minute walk from Aulani so it was very convenient to get to.  If you are interested in going to a luau at Paradise Cove check out this blog post http://mybelleelle.com/adventures/review-of-the-paradise-cove-luau/.  After the luau we stayed up late stopping by every floor on the resort to take pictures of the beautiful artwork.  The next morning it was time for me to leave but we had breakfast with an ocean view at ‘Ama’Ama.  I had the best breakfast that I have ever had in my entire life which is no exaggeration.  I ordered macadamia nut pancakes that came with a vanilla/caramel sauce.  Aulani

I was devastated to have to leave such a wonderful place and hope that I will be bless with an opportunity to visit Aulani again. One other fun part of Aulani that I have not mentioned yet is the Menehune that can be found all over Aualni. So if you make it to Aulani be sure to keep an eye out for the Menehune because they could be anywhere.

I found this Menehune hiding in our elevator
