Deciding what to pack for college can be quite the challenge. Odds are that everything you would like to take with you just won’t fit in your room. Even with planning & preparation there is still a chance that you will leave something that you need at home. Somethings you won’t even realize you need until you’ve already been at school for at least a few weeks. Here are 5 must have items to pack for college that can make a huge difference.
Purex Complete 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets
These sheets that double as detergent and static sheets for the dryer are amazing. They are lightweight which makes carting your clothes to the laundry room that much easier. No need to buy bulky detergent bottles that take up space. This simplifies the laundry process a lot. Once my college friends saw me using these sheets they all switched to them to. I cannot recommend these enough!
*The sheets used to be carried in stores and for some reason are now only available online. I am hoping someday they will come back to Target & Walmart.
Closet space is very limited in most dorm rooms. Shoe organizers take up very little space and make storing your shoes easy. Plus, if you don’t use every space for your shoes you can store other things in there too. The best shoe organizers are the ones that simply attach to the rod in the closet.
I did not get a towel rack for my dorm room until my last year in college. Little did I know how handy it would be. I found it more useful for holding my purses, backpacks and scarfs than towels. You can use it however you like but an over the door towel rack saves you space.
One of the schools I went to allowed us to hang stuff on the walls using nails. Another school that I went to did not. Command strips & hooks are the perfect thing to use to hang things on your dorm wall. Not only are they easy to remove but they are sturdy. They are great for hanging pictures and other decor. I put one by my door where I kept my keys & campus id.
Having a power strip for my dorm room was very helpful. Between your computer, smart phone, tablet, printer and whatever else you need to plug in chances are you will run out of outlets. By using an outlet surge power protector you should be able to have a plug for everything. This becomes extremely beneficial when you have to share the outlets with one or two roommates. Depending on how far the outlet is from your bed you might also want to pick up an extension cord.
What are your must have items to pack for college?
My son is leaving for his first year of college in just a few years. He is a bit overwhelmed with the packing process right now :) I am going to have to look for those Purex 3 in 1 sheets and get him some.
A shower caddy was a must back in my dorm days! So helpful and useful :) Thanks for sharing! xo, sharon
