College books are insanely expensive. Buying them from the campus bookstore can be the most convenient option. However, don’t assume that you are getting a good deal. Yes, that may end up being the place to buy some if not all of your books when you can’t find them elsewhere. However, by doing some research you can easily save money on college books.
Chegg
After my first semester of college I did a lot of research to find out how to get my books for less money. I found out about this website called Chegg. Through Chegg you are able to rent your books. Renting your books is a great way to save money. I never had any problems using Chegg and highly recommend it.
Buy directly from someone you know
Buying and selling books with your friends and classmates in college is awesome. Don’t be afraid to ask around see who is interested in selling their books. This isn’t always the cheapest option but it was always cheaper than the bookstore prices. Plus, you don’t have to pay shipping.
Amazon
Amazon is such a useful website. Not only was I able to sell a lot of my books myself here but I also bought some for a great price. If you are not an Amazon prime member you can get a 30 day trial to take advantage of free shipping.
Check the library
None of the books I needed were ever in the school library. However, I had friends who were able to find the books they needed and would check them out when they needed them. Yes, this is a great way to save money. However, you could be competing for the books with several of your classmates.
Share a Book
Are you and a friend or roommate taking the same class? You might want to split the cost of the book. Just be sure to work out a schedule that will be beneficial for both of you.

Amazon used books were my lifesaver!
Great tips! I hated how expensive textbooks were in school, it was so ridiculous that us poor college students were expected to pay so much. I ended up getting mine on a discount textbook website.

These are great tips– I used to get mine through Half.com, which was run by eBay back in the day. I think Amazon pretty much took it’s place, but it was so much cheaper than buying the books directly from school.
I always bought books from friends or upperclassmen in college! It saves so much money!

I love renting books instead of purchasing. It saved me so much money on books that were outside my major. Chegg is great!

I used Chegg so much when I was in college! What a lifesaver!
Our school had a rental program that was free. So praise that I didn’t have to buy them in general, but great tips for those that do!

Oh, I remember the good ol’ days of having to shell out $300-400 every semester for books that would be “outdated” come next semester.
Amazon and sharing books with my sorority sisters was a life saver for me in college!
