flowerfieldsWhen was the last time that you stopped and smelled the roses?  Well the flower fields in Southern California are not known for their roses but it is still worthy of your consideration.  Back in May one of my friends took me to the flower fields in Carlsbad which is down towards San Diego. The flower fields are located off of the five freeway and right next to an outlet mall.  It is a great place to stop if you are driving down to San Diego from Los Angeles or Orange County because you can get food around the exit and you can stop and see some pretty flowers.  The flower fields are only open for a few months in the spring and the best time to visit is April when the flowers are at their peak.  This past season the flower fields were open from March 1-May 15th.  This a great place to take family pictures and enjoy a day outdoors.  From the top of the flower fields you can view the flowers as well as the ocean which is gorgeous.

Ticket prices are $12 for adults, $11 for Seniors 60+, $6 for children 3-10 & children two and under are free.  The fee for the wagon ride is $5 for adults and $3 for 3-10.  If you have anyone in your group that has difficulty walking for long periods of time or up hill then the wagon ride might be a great option for your group.  There is no charge for parking but depending on how crowded it is you may need to park at the outlet mall.  This is such a great place to bring your family because it can be enjoyed by all ages, especially the little ones.  In addition to all that the flower fields have to offer there are lots of ways for children to stay busy and entertained.  The playground is adorable and is perfect for young children.

You have the option of walking around the flower fields or you can take the wagon ride.  If you chose to walk there are lots of benches at the top if you need a rest since it is a large area.  You will be walking on unpaved areas so keep that in mind when deciding what shoes to wear.  I would really encourage athletic shoes because that way you will stay comfortable but also make sure that you are ok with the possibility of your shoes getting dirty.  Of course dirt can be wiped off but plain white shoes might not be the best idea.  There are lots of spots to stop and pose for pictures which I love since I love taking pictures as well as having my picture taken.  There is a sweet pea maze that is much trickier than I thought it would be.

There were no special events going on the day I visited but sometimes they do have live music or special events like a car show in the fields.  In April they had an event with Canon where they taught you how to take nature and landscape photos and even provided an opportunity to borrow a canon camera and use it in the fields with assistance from a canon photographer.  If you have a canon camera or are interested in learning more about photographing places like the flower fields be sure to connect with the flower fields on social media so you can find out information on events like this.  Whether you live in California or are visiting the area the flower fields in Carlsbad are worth considering for a fun family outing!  Thank you so much to my friend Bruno for bringing me here.
