How To Go To Free Concerts

I think we all can agree that free stuff is awesome!  Jimmy Kimmel hosts an outdoor music series in Hollywood that just started last week and will continue off and on for a few months hopefully.  So far Kimmel’s guests have included Imagine Dragons, Modest Mouse, and today’s guest is Maroon 5.  Previously Kimmel has held concerts with Paul McCartney and Justin Timberlake so you can see some pretty big artists and all for free.  You might be wondering how these concerts can be free.  Well first off they are not full concerts, just mini concerts but still a free concert is a free concert.  1iota is an online ticketing website which gives out free tickets for several shows including Jimmy Kimmel Live! and it is from this site that you can get the free concert tickets.

I found out about the concerts by following 1iota on twitter and was wait listed for the Maroon 5 concert but did receive tickets for the Imagine Dragons concert.  I ended up not being able to go to see Imagine Dragons but I did learn a few things to share with you in the process.  When I first requested two tickets to see Imagine Dragons I was put on a general ticket list however when I included the name of the friend that I planned on bringing with me my tickets were upgraded to priority.  These concerts take place around where Jimmy Kimmel shoots his show on Hollywood Blvd.  On my Imagon Dragons ticket it mentioned lining up on the street behind Hollywood Blvd.

You can park underneath the Loews Hotel and Dolby Theatre and you can get your parking validated after the concert.  Some helpful hints if you can go are: wear camera friendly clothes (no logos or large designs), no bags or purses allowed and make sure you are free that day.  Priority check in begins at 4:30pm and they encourage you to arrive 45-60 mins ahead of that so you need to be able to be in Hollywood around 3:30pm.  If you should get wait listed for one of the concerts do not lose hope.  I was wait listed for Maroon 5 and have received two emails letting me know that should I attend another 1iota show I could receive two priority tickets for Maroon 5.  At the bottom of the email I will include information on upcoming free concerts through 1iota.

In addition to the mini concert series that I just mentioned there are some others way to enjoy music for free this summer.  A lot of cities will offer some type of a music event or festival that is often free.  One of the cities doing this is Pasadena with Make Music Pasadena.  There will be several performers on June 6th and with a lot of different artists there is bound to be something for everyone in your group.  If you do not live close to Pasadena but love the idea of enjoying free music let me encourage you to do some research and find out if anything like this will be happening in your area.

This Saturday is the Wango Tango concert in Carson but if you do not have tickets to the sold out show you can still enjoy some music for free before hand with KIIS FM’s Wango Tango Village.  The fun is scheduled to begin at 10am and will included the following musicians:  Fifth Harmony, Jake Miller, Alyxx Dione, Eden Xo, Bean, SYD Youth, Wild Style and Hotel Lobby.  I have not been to the Wango Tango Village before but a friend and I did go to the Jingle Ball Village event out by LA Live in December.  We had a GREAT time between collecting free stuff, getting free snacks and enjoying performances from artists like Meghan Trainor.  My recommendation is to bring a decent size backpack or purse so that you don’t have to turn down any free goodies.  For a map of the Wango Tango Village and for more information please visit: http://www.kiisfm.com/pages/events/wango-tango/index.php?dmu=1430861184976

I have two more examples of some ways to go to a free concert.  Two summers ago I worked for a christian radio station and we held an event in the parking lot of Angels Stadium.  Anyone was welcome to attend regardless of whether or not they were going to the Angels game.  We had games set up, lots of food and a stage where various artists came to perform.  If you want to find out about events like this follow your local radio stations on Twitter of Facebook so that you can be in the know.  Also another opportunity to see christian groups for free is through summer programs like Harvest.  Harvest is an event that takes place in the late summer and for Orange County is held at Angels Stadium.  It is put on by Greg Laurie, is free to the public, and includes performances by some popular musicians.

Check out https://1iota.com for free tickets to Jimmy Kimmels concert series.

The more I think about it I could continue listing several ways to find information about free concerts but for now I think this is a great start.  If you know of any free concerts that I can share with our readers please let me know!
