Cake Q&A with Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston

I wish I had a better picture but the lighting made it very difficult

This event took place on November 19, 2014 at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, California.  As a huge Jennifer Aniston fan I was thrilled to found out that not only could I see her new movie Cake a few months before it would be released but that Jennifer herself would be coming to the screening to do a q&a afterwards with Jason Bateman.  I found out about the event from following American Cinematheque on Twitter, this is the company that owns the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood and the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica.  You can join the American Cinematheque as a member which I would recommend if you live close by as some events are members only.  They have screenings with the stars quite often so if this is something that interests you I would encourage you to look at the bottom of this post for staying up to date with their events.

I was very excited to see Cake because I had started seeing articles going around the internet talking about how Jennifer had never done a role like this before and there was some Oscar buzz going around.  The movie is not my cup of tea as it is slow and not very exciting.  However Jennifer did a remarkable job playing Claire, a woman suffering from chronic pain.  Anna Kendrick’s character Nina, commits suicide before the movie begins and we find out that Claire and Nina were in a support group together.  Throughout the movie Claire sees Nina and this leads her to reach out to Nina’s husband and child.

You realize very early on in the film that Claire is addicted to pain killers and that she seems to have lost her passion for life.  At the beginning of the film I was very annoyed and aggravated with Claire but as the movie progressed and I got to know more about her and what had happened to her it made me more sympathetic towards her.  If you have seen Jennifer Aniston in a movie or from Friends then you know she can do comedy and it is so nice to see her get to explore another type of character.

Following the movie Jason and Jennifer came into the theatre and began the q&a portion.  Jason and Jennifer are good friends so it was fun to see them interact with each other but hearing Jennifer talk about the movie and talk about acting was wonderful.  I recorded a bit of it so be sure to check out the video at the bottom of the post.  After Jason had finished with his questions they opened it up to the audience to ask questions and I really wanted to talk to Jennifer but I could not think of a question.  Jennifer was very kind and gracious is talking to and interacting with the audience.  Sometimes you believe that a celebrity will be just as kind and wonderful and fun as the characters they play and then you get around them and realize that they are not at all someone you would in fact want to hang out with.  I was so delighted to find out that it was the not the case with Jennifer Aniston.  She was everything that I thought she would be!
